This song was composed by the renowned poet and devotee of Lord Swaminarayan, Muktananda Swami. 'Jaya Sadguru Swami' is one of the most famous Arti songs and is sung in all Swaminarayan temples in the mornings and evenings to accompany the Arti ceremony.
During the Arti ceremony a lighted ghee lamp is waved before a representation of Lord Swaminarayan known as the Murti. Lord Swaminarayan is considered to be physically manifest in the Murti, and several arti ceremonies are performed through the day in order that devotees can show their love and devotion. As the Murti is not permanently on view for devotees, the Arti is an important opportunity to gain blessings through darshan (reverential contemplation) of a physical manifestation of Lord Swaminarayan.
